My new friends and I climbed 1350 stairs to get to the Fortress of Kotor. The ascent in the 85 degree heat was brutal, but the spectacular views of the bay and mountains made it worthwhile.

Unfortunately this is just a poor substitute for how breathtaking it actually was!
Wow, one of my best friends did pretty much the same trip (except in reverse) and she couldn’t stop raving about all her off-the-wall experiences… like coming across an unexploded bomb in an abandoned hotel outside Sarajevo! I’ve just wrapped up a year of studying/travelling in Spain, never got as far as the Balkans but these countries are definitely there on my wishlist. Love the detailed accounts by the way!
